Pretoria resident and Senior MAX pilot Brandon van der Walt improved throughout the weekend to claim fourth overall in a fiercely contested second round of Northern Regions Rotax Karting at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit.
Brandon qualified his WORR Motorsport kart on the third row of the grid (sixth) and maintained that position as the chequered flag dropped for the conclusion of the opening heat. Starting ninth for Heat 2, he would improve to finish seventh before claiming a podium finish (third) in an incident-filled final heat. Of the 11 competitors entered, Brandon recorded the third quickest racing lap of the day to continue his rise in the sport.
“Fourth overall is a good result, considering we didn’t start the day too well. But the guys at WORR Motorsport have been exceptional in setting up the kart and providing me with the necessary guidance. Since moving to the team, it’s only been a positive and satisfying experience,” said Brandon.
Brandon will now focus on the next race at Idube Raceway, which will host the second national round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge on 3-4 May.
