Following an impressive debut in the 2025 South African Touring Cars (SATC) SupaCup Championship, Dawie van der Merwe is set to take on the legendary Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit for Round 2. While the Nelspruit driver is no stranger to the world-class Johannesburg venue, this will mark his first competitive outing at Kyalami behind the wheel of the Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa-backed SupaStarlet.

Dawie’s journey to the SupaCup was earned through his dominant performance in the 2024 GR86 Championship, where he clinched the title and secured a fully backed drive in the SATC SupaCup series. Despite limited testing before his debut in Round 1, he quickly adapted to the new car, impressing with his rapid progress throughout the weekend. At the season opener, Dawie showcased his ability to compete at the sharp end of the grid.

Now, with valuable race mileage under his belt, Dawie heads to Kyalami with confidence and a clear goal: to continue his upward trajectory and challenge for a top-three finish. Kyalami’s fast and technical nature will test both driver and machine, but with the backing of Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa, OMP, and Fast Developments, he is well-equipped to take on the challenge.

“Kyalami is an incredible circuit, and I’m excited to get back there in the SupaStarlet. We showed steady progress at Round 1 and that there is still some pace to be found in the car, and with more seat time, we can push even harder,” said Dawie. “The competition against the more established VW SupaPolos is fierce, but we’re making progress every session, and I believe we can challenge for even stronger results this weekend.”
