Saturday, 19 October saw the curtain fall on a challenging season for one of South Africa’s talented and up-and-coming female saloon car drivers. Following several setbacks throughout the Astron Energy Polo Cup season, Tyler Robinson again suffered misfortune at the championship’s final round at Zwartkops.
Having pulled out all the stops for Qualifying on Friday afternoon, the AF Fans-backed driver again progressed to the Superfinal Shootout, where she finished sixth. Despite the good starting position, Tyler was unable to capitalise on it as she soon encountered a mechanical issue in the form of a broken boost pipe that would eventually force her retirement from the race.
Forced to start the final race from the rear of the grid, Tyler put in an impressive performance, showcasing why she is regarded as one of South African motorsport’s top female drivers. From last on the grid, she worked skillfully through the pack ahead to finish in seventh.
“Not how we wanted to finish,” said Tyler. “But it sums up our season. We’ve had a good pace all year, but something would always go wrong and ruin any chance of a good result. We had a few good events, but we were not able to deliver consistently with all the challenges we faced. It’s been quite tough mentally, too, having to dig deep to salvage some results when the chips were down. But that has allowed me to build some character, which I know will put me in good stead going forward.”
Tyler thanks AF Fans, Freem, Universal Racing, RKT Motorsport and Apex Gaming.
