Vryburg medals all round for Honda Wing Racing
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop Tyres raided the desert and came home with a pile of gold, silver, and bronze over the weekend. Its riders were on the podium overall and in most of the classes it entered in the third round 2024 Trademore South African Cross Country Motorcycle Championship in the Northwest Province on Saturday.
“Vryburg was another great weekend for Honda Wing Racing,” UB Leisure TFC Sleepover team boss Harry Grobler admitted. “Louwrens Mahoney was third overall with another Senior win, Warrick van Schalkwyk backed that up with gold in the Masters class, while Seth Young was second in High School and Tyron Beverley stood on the OR3 podium too. A great showing all round – well done to everyone who helped make it happen!”
Louwrens Mahoney was the star of the show as he rode among the youngsters up front all the way to come home a mighty third overall en route to yet another dominant Senior win aboard his thunderous UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda CRF 450 RX. That makes it three wins in three national starts for Louwrens for 2024, and four in a row in class taking last year’s final win into account.
Warrick van Schalkwyk meanwhile completed his comeback after almost a year away due to injury with a just as powerful Masters showing aboard his UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda CRF 450 RX. Warrick came back quietly and took his time to rebuild his confidence and speed, and certainly was ready for Vryburg where he delivered a dominant gate to flag victory in the Northwest race.
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover’s Honda CRF 250 RX gang also enjoyed another strong OR3 showing in the desert. All three riders were once again well within the class top ten with Tyron Beverley the best of them in a podium third, Erik Merry fifth, and young Blake Young eighth. UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Junior riders, Seth Young added a silver medal in High School, while little Ruald Potgieter was sixth in 85cc Seniors.
“Before we go, a quick word about the luckless Mike Pentecost whose race was thwarted by bike niggles. His National luck has to change soon and we can’t wait for that day to come,” Harry Grobler concluded. “For the rest, all that’s left to do is to salute this incredible team on another brilliant result – well done Honda Wing Racing!”
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop must wait until 10 August for its next National outing in the Western Cape, but there are two Gauteng GXCC regionals between now and then, on 8 June and 15 July.
