Sherrill Joyce Castley will long be remembered as a lady who truly lived her life to the fullest.

A loving wife to Allen Castley and mother to Mandy she leaves a granddaughter named Lauren and her sisters Trisha and Ronelle.
Sherrill was the in-house model for Foschini early in her career and instrumental in creating the Miss Killarney competitions of the early 80’s with Elaine Kriel. She tried her hand at Killarney Karting and then teamed up with her close friend Elaine Kriel as a navigator in rallying for a number of events.

Jan Kriel made his Malta Bridge Service Station Datsun P510 1600 SSS available for the ladies to campaign whilst he would then drive the service van in the popular Pop’s Robert Interclub Championship. Quite possibly the first all-ladies crew in the region.

Patricia Ashley (wife of Owen Ashley) qualified herself as Clerk of the Course and with Elaine Kriel and Sherrill Castley in command of the 0 car they successfully presented the WPMC Montagu Rally as a round of Western Province Rally Championship as a female-only organising committee. Something that has never been repeated!

Close friends for 45 years saw Allen and Sherrill Castley get married on 31 July 1971 (married for 52 years) whilst Jan and Elaine Kriel tied the knot in the same year on 2 October 1971.

Allen Castley won his first Western Province Rally Navigators Championship with Pieter de Waal in 1978 in the WPMC Schus Datsun and he would add another four as navigator for Serge Damseaux (Alfa Romeo) before retiring to Montagu.

In the days of spectating on night rallies, chances are that the first voice you would hear in the middle of nowhere at some ridiculous time would have been that of the ever-enthusiastic Sherrill.

To Sherrill!
