This past weekend Mikel Bezuidenhout competed in Round 2 of the MSA Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship, finishing within the top seven at Formula-K Kart Circuit, Benoni.
After qualifying his CRG Senior MAX in ninth on Saturday morning, Bezuidenhout worked his way up to seventh in the initial stages of the race before losing several positions. With a lap remaining, the Johannesburg teenager managed to make two passes and take the chequered flag in seventh. Heat 2 would see the NBR Karting driver improve on his opening heat result with a sixth-place finish but was unfortunate not to repeat the feat in the final race as he crossed the finish line in seventh. The combined results saw him classified in seventh overall.
“It was another tough day out there,” said Bezuidenhout. “The guys at the front are quick, and I’m hoping that with enough practice I will be challenging them soon. For now, we have made a significant improvement to be fighting at the front of the mid-pack and if we can do so consistently I believe we will be in with a podium shout.”
Bezuidenhout thanks MTN Cosmo-Net and NBR Karting for the support and will return to the circuit for the opening round of the MSA National Karting Championship set for the Celso Scribante Kart Circuit, Gqerberha on 24-25 March 2023.
