After a disappointing start to her 2024 Astron Energy Polo Cup season, Tyler Robinson bounced back in fine style at Round 2 in April to get her championship back on track. This weekend, 17-18 May, she will be racing at her home circuit, Zwartkops Raceway, determined to improve and claw back the points she lost to the leaders.
Retirement in the opening race of the Killarney round prevented her from starting Race 2, and she left Cape Town without scoring any championship points. In the second round, however, a gritty performance in both races saw her record a seventh and eighth-place finish, respectively, which sees her head to Zwartkops 13th in the standings.
Zwartkops Raceway might be one of the shorter circuits on the Extreme Festival calendar, but it remains one of the most challenging, offering very few opportunities to overtake. Getting the most out of every lap is crucial, no more so than during qualifying, which allows the cars starting higher up the grid a better opportunity to compete for the win.
“We’ve had our share of challenges, but I want to thank the team for their hard work and dedication as well as my sponsors. Together, we can be competitive and make up for Cape Town’s disappointment. A few rounds remain in this championship, and I won’t give up until the final chequered flag at the final race. As a team, we are well aware of what is required, so we’ll be pushing all the way,” said Tyler.
Three practice sessions await Tyler on Friday, leading up to the nail-biting qualifier later in the afternoon. The six quickest drivers progress to a one-lap shootout to determine the Race 1 grid. The excitement peaks with three intense 10-lap races on Saturday, crowning the overall Round 3 winner.
Be part of the action! The heart-pounding 15-race programme kicks off at 10:05 on Saturday. Spectator tickets are easily accessible at the Zwartkops Raceway entrance or can be conveniently purchased by emailing info@zwartkops.co.za. Can’t make it to the race?
