Andrew nicks May Madness UK Formula Ford honours
So, what does Cape Town race driver Andrew Rackstraw do on off weekends in between his British Porsche Carrera Cup GB commitments? Well, he wins more races, that’s what! This past bank holiday Monday was no exception as Rackstraw also continued his preparations for the Walter Hayes Formula Ford Championship at Castle Combe.
The CCRC Gulf Race Fuels FF1600 Championship has been a Cotswolds, Wiltshire Castle Combe crowd favourite since 1969, with this, what some would describe as a wet and fun May Madness Monday meeting as its second round. That did not prevent Andrew from delivering a fine performance to steal overall victory.
“I was up against some guys who have raced there every month since before I was born,” Andrew smiled. “Monday started off on the front foot when I qualified fourth in the dry on my first sight of the track. But it was raining for race 1, and I was right in my element. I fought my way to the front and went on to take the win with the fastest lap.
“Race 2 was more of the same, and I went to the front from fourth, but this one was a super close battle. I made a small mistake on the final corner of the final lap and that gave Rory Smith the run to the line for a well-deserved win. So I was a close second in the race but did enough for the overall win in a great day of racing.
“Now we focus fully on this coming weekend’s Brands Hatch second round Porsche Carrera Cup GB races. All I can say about that is I am super, super excited for it! Bring it on!”
