A promising showing by Justin Engle and Ryan Pey in their 445 WC3 Toyota Corolla RXi 1600 during the Porterville rally on Saturday 1 March 2025 came to a premature end when they were forced to retire the car at the start of the penultimate special stage.

Posting the equal fifth fastest time on the opening stage had the team feeling confident but then they slowed on special stage two with a “severe” vibration which proved to be nothing more than a stone that had wedged itself between the tyre en rim.

Not losing their rhythm they managed to maintain a fine provisional fourth overall with a smooth and consistent drive until a simple grubscrew dislodged itself on the steering and they had no choice but to retire their car.

Fortunately, this lesson was not learned mid-way through the special stage and the combination leaves Porterville with valuable experience gained and confident that they are making steady progress towards the front of their class
