The SA Rally-Raid National Championship has enjoyed a magnificent start to the 2024 season with three action-packed and highly competitive rounds in Mpumalanga with the #TeamHiluxRally-Raid 400, the PS Laser Promac 400, a new event on the calendar, and the recent TGRSA Safari 1000 in the Waterberg area of Limpopo Province. The latter also provided the stage for the FIA candidate event, which could earn South Africa a round on the 2025 W2RC calendar.

“The growth of our series in the last eighteen months has been exceptional, and it is very encouraging considering the less than favourable economic climate South Africa and the rest of the world are enduring,” said SARR CEO Archie Rutherford.

“The SARRC field is arguably the strongest of all the national rally-raid championships globally, with the largest number of rally-raid vehicle manufacturers based in South Africa,” quoted by the visiting FIA delegation.

To professionally administer and serve this industry, SARR collaborate with a core group of individuals and organisations and continually strive to enhance on deliverance to all the stakeholders, be they longstanding partners, commercial and technical partners or the heart of the sport, the competitor base.

“To strengthen the team, we recently appointed Craig Doubtfire as the General Manager of SARR. Craig is a team-player, and his vast experience will bring valuable support to the team and our sport,” said Rutherford.

Doubtfire, who is no stranger to off-road racing spent a couple of seasons as Rutheford’s navigator in the early 2000’s in the Special Vehicle category. He is a dedicated family man, with a robust sporting background which boasts National Colours in Water Polo, and an active history at Provincial level in Soccer, Hockey, Biathlon and Swimming.

“His cooperative leadership qualities and proven track record in the corporate environment in sales and various managerial roles stands him in good stead for the task at hand,” Rutherford concluded.

The next tantalising rounds of the SA Rally-Raid championship, rounds four and five, the INGCO Parys 400 and the INGCO Vaal 400 take place on 16 and 17 August from Stonehenge River Lodge, on the banks of the Vaal River.
