At the conclusion of Round 2 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships in Vereeniging, Adriaan Steyn, the 2023 National Bambino Champion and a newcomer to the Micro MAX class, grappled with a host of hardships during the event.
The Greensky-backed driver’s race day started off well with a third-place qualifying position. From there, Adriaan showed his mettle by claiming a third-place finish, solidifying his position as one of the top drivers in the field. Despite a setback in Heat 2, where he had a DNF after a collision with another competitor, and the disappointment of being underweight at the scales in the final heat, Adriaan’s determination remained unwavering. These challenges in the last two heats led to his 11th overall finish.
“Not a good day for me regarding results,” said Adriaan. “But we had a quick kart, and despite the incident and DQ, we showed that we have what it takes to compete at the front. We will look ahead and take the positives from this weekend as we head to iDube for the national in a few weeks time.”
Idube Raceway will host the second national round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge on 3-4 May.
