The Rand Kart Club is set to host another round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships this weekend as the Gauteng-based regional competition returns to Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
Having hosted the season’s opening round, the circuit that hosted the 2002 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals will host Round 4 of the championship, which will also score towards the national championship. 2023 National Cadet Champion Luhan de Wet, a fierce competitor who now races out of the Xtreme Racing Team stable, is poised to outscore and potentially take the lead of the championship, trailing the leader by six points. While finishing as the runner-up in five of nine heats so far this season, Luhan’s only win has come at Zwartkops, something he will be keen on repeating.
“I’m looking forward to racing at Zwartkops again, having competed in Vereeniging for the last two rounds. The circuits are completely different because Vereeniging is flat, while Zwartkops has many elevation changes. I’d also like to head into the halfway point as the championship leader so it’s important for me to do well this weekend by adding to my only victory so far,” said Luhan.
The action all kicks off on Friday with practice before qualifying and three race heats sees an overall winner declared. Entry to the circuit is free, and spectators are encouraged to attend.
