Micro MAX rookie Luhan de Wet returns to regional karting this weekend as the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship commences after a short break that saw the hosting of the penultimate round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge at Formula-K Raceway.

However, the championship returns to Zwartkops Kart Raceway for Round 5 this weekend, also the venue for the opening and fourth rounds of the Gauteng regional competition. Zwartkops, Luhan’s home circuit, saw the Centurion resident record his maiden heat victory in Round 1 while scoring two runner-up finishes at a successful fourth round in June. Currently ranked second in the points standings, the Xtreme Racing Team driver boasts nine podium finishes, including his win.

“I’m expecting another fiercely contested round of regional racing this weekend,” said Luhan. “The competition is tough with very little separating us at the top of the time sheets. While we had some good speed at Formula-K for the national, Zwartkops requires a slightly different approach. I am, however, confident that the team will be able to deliver so that I can fight for the win on Saturday.”

Saturday’s program will commence with a warm-up session, qualifying, and three race heats. Entry to the circuit is free, and spectators are encouraged to attend.
