It was a proud moment for South African motorsport this past weekend. Luviwe Sambudla, the 2021 ROK Cup SA National Champion has progressed to race in the WSK in Italy this year and last, secured a podium in the WSK Super Master Series, a huge achievement for the South African karting community and South African motorsport as a whole.

The WSK series hosts championships in the 60 Mini, OKJ, OK and KZ2 karting divisions. Antonio Giovinazzi and Max Verstappen, two Formula One drivers, are notable champions of this series.

Luviwe competed in the ROK Cup series in South Africa with his team Squadra Corse. The Rok Series allowed Luviwe to sharpen his skills before making the move overseas.  “On the back of a successful driver development programme the team headed to Cremona Italy for round four of the the WSK Super Master Series with high expectations.  By now I knew Luviwe Sambudla had built up quite a lot of confidence, and this became very evident after his practice sessions” said Mpho Gumbi, Luviwes manager from Ican managment “qualifying was very good, but it was in the elimination heats that Luviwe expressed his real intention, to go for the overall win. Luviwe’s dominance in the pre-final saw him lining up with over thirty international Ok drivers for final race, his race craft throughout the weekend resulted in him starting the final from the front row. The final ended with Luviwe finishing in an impressive second place – a consolation was achieving the fastest (lap). I am very proud of Luviwe, his driving craft is now calculated and without unnecessary risks. He has always been a race winner, but in my opinion, he is now a complete package who can fight for series wins”

“I have always had the will to win, and together with my management team and Kart Republic I have continued preparing to win. My results from every session this weekend are evidence of this unwavering commitment” said Luviwe who went on to add “I am so grateful to have had the chance to rub shoulders with some of the best karters in the world, and that I could eventually challenge them for an overall win in the WSK Super Masters Series. This trophy will take pride of place on my mantle”

Luviwe’s achievements in the WSK have been nothing short of remarkable. As one of the first South Africans to compete in this prestigious karting championship, he has not only paved the way for future generations of South African racers but has also made his country proud with his exceptional performances on the track.

Sambudla’s success in the WSK has been the result of his unwavering dedication, hard work, and perseverance, which have enabled him to overcome numerous challenges and setbacks along the way. His talent and skill as a driver have been evident in his impressive results, including this weekends podium finishes and top-ten finishes in some of the toughest races in the championship.

Beyond his individual success, Sambudla has also become an inspiration to many young South Africans who aspire to pursue a career in motorsport. His story is a testament to the fact that with passion, determination, and hard work, anything is possible.

Luviwe‘s achievements in the WSK have not only made him a rising star in the world of karting but have also brought pride and honor to his home country of South Africa. We can only hope that he continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in this sport and inspires the next generation of South African racers to follow in his footsteps. Luviwe is one to watch!
