Strong wind and hot sun combined for a memorable final round of the 2024 Lime Property Management Power Series at the Killarney International Raceway on Saturday 16 November 2024.
Pirelli V8 Masters & Kaltron Supercars 2×9 Laps
Something of a unique situation when the Kaltron Supercars are there to assist the younger generation in learning more about car set-up before moving into the other categories of the sport whilst the Masters cater for those who have pretty much been there and done that before finally putting their helmets away.
Both series are extremely competitive as drivers face each other with the same machinery which makes for great racing and nowhere to hide. For more than a decade Fabio Tafani has been the dominant force in the masters V8 series and his 1 Club Refrigeration entry was once again unstoppable on Saturday with Sean Moore 73 Ziegler and Mark Ridgway 53 getWorth disputing second and third.
Fabio Tafani and Sean Moore planning to team up in the Endurance Championship for 2025 driving a rather interesting TA2 Howe Racing Camaro fitted with an LS3 Corvette engine. In short, there will be a great opportunity for new talent to step into the Pirelli V8 Masters series. Gary Thomson 17, Harry Taylor 46 Autohaus Angel and Stuart Spooner 55 completed the top six on Saturday, but one could expect many new combinations come the opening round for 2025!
Behind the scenes, there has been much work done to grow numbers in the Kaltron Supercar series and they had more cars on the grid than their senior partners for the first time this season. The names have changed and it will take some time for these drivers to establish themselves but they are moving in the right direction.
Kyle Hallick 31 Planet Automation the somewhat surprised overall victor after Glen Philips 33 and Ernest Page 19 Mischief Garage tangled on the exit of Castrol corner. Brad Fenner was home third in car 9 with Nashree Schloss fourth in car 24 Lime Property Management. The top six were completed by Craig Hume 21 Kaltron and Shawn Cope 42 Lime Property Management.
MGA Racing Clubman – Classic & Breakfast Run 2×9 Laps
The now almost customary showdown between Hilton Redelinghuys and Jamie Hall proved entertaining until Hilton managed to take a nasty tumble into Damps Dip early in the second heat. Hilton secured the 2024 championship by beating Jamie in the first race and with the number 1 proudly displayed on the rather rare 888 Motorcycles Kawasaki ZX7R the season did not end quite as planned.
Jamie Hall took overall victory aboard his 65 MGA Racing Suzuki SRAD 750 with visiting Breakfast Runner, Romano di Leva aboard his BMW S1000RR, second and the The Mag Workshop 163 Suzuki Slingshot of Wesel Kruger third. Greg Waddington fourth aboard his 15 KTM RC8C and in fifth it was Dean Gabriels on his 88 ABC International Estate Yamaha R6. A 30sec jump start penalty relegating Malcolm Govender, BMW S1000RR, to sixth overall.
Bejo Trustees Formula Libre 2×10 Laps
A Formula Vee race for the day saw Joshua Smit (83 S&S Racing Rhema FVee) win uncontested with Kelly Fletcher (22 Dolphin Engineering Forza FVee) second, James Beaumont (21 iSquared Technologies Forza FVee) third, Benjack Phillips (17 Classic Car Care Lantis FVee) fourth, Wynand de Ritter (10 Dolphin Engineering Lantis FVee) fifth and Donovan Ramsay (95 Kerston Foods Sting FVee) sixth.
Another formula that has experienced fluctuating numbers, but the FVee creates great potential as the national championship round serves as an additional incentive to the local competitors.
BATT Tech STC 650 & SSP 300 2×9 Laps
With Jamie Hall, (65 MGA Racing Kawasaki ER650) content to simply do what was required to secure the championship it was Nicholas Hutchings who finished the season with overall victory aboard his 72 HSC Racing Kawasaki ER650, the champion elect in second and in third it was Adrian Solomon on board his 4 The Pool King Kawasaki ER650. This class certainly looks promising for the 2025 season.
Paul Medell is fourth on the 5 Trac Mac Kawasaki ER6N with Braddon Hutchings 5th on the second HSC racing Kawasaki ER650 and in sixth spot it was Reinhardt Burnett on his 54 Subsidium IT Kawaaki ER650.
Raymond Alexander claimed the top spot in SSP 300 aboard his 11 Rayder Cycles Kawasaki Ninja 400 with Mitch Robinson second on his 71 Mag Workshop Kawasaki Ninja 400 and in third it was Codie Redelinghuys aboard the 87 888 Motorcycles Yamaha R3. Enrique Petersen (18 Kawasaki Ninja 300) fourth, Abigail Bosson (51 Ateka Yamaha YZF R3) fifth and Lee-Anthony Pinn (ABC International Real Estate Kawasaki ZX300) fifth and sixth. The latter really serious about his sponsor, investing in some Pertamina Fastron real estate.
API Property GTi Challenge 2×8 Laps
Just 0.807 seconds separated pole, Nathan Victor, from Schalk Geldenhuys who was ninth on the grid for Heat 1. In class B Dario Busi was separated from Zaki Hendricks in fourth spot by 0.638 seconds. Mark Fontini is still the fastest in class C.
Eight laps later 0.159 seconds separated Marco Busi and Nathan Victor in class A with Jurie Swart an almost cautionary third. Schalk Geldenhuys fourth,Shane Williams fifth and Oliver Hintenaus sixth. Dario Busi claiming class B from Nur Abass, Mohammed T Khalfey and Weylin Volschenk. Class C saw Mark Fontini leading Zac Laden, Daniel Munna, Reza levy, Falshman Finneran and Adriano Ferroli past the flag.
Mohammed T Khalfey tried to ppnat the 14 Mad Performance Polo 6 on the outside of Pertamina Fastron but succeeded in recovering well. Danie Sandenbergh managed a rather unique feat by not losing one wheel, but two on his 49B Eikestad Panelbeaters Polo. And he did it with a touch of class by having the left rear wheel pass him as a decoy whilst the right front folded under the car to leave him with drive but no wheel. Both center hubs sheared out of the rims? And there were the customary post-race investigations.
Heat two and Busi beats Victor by just 0.104 seconds after eight hard laps with Schalk Geldenhuys taking third from Jurie Swart. Dillon Joubert and Shane Williams completed the top six. Mohammed T Khalfey beat Dario Busi by 2.1 seconds to win class B with Faizal Jacobs third and Zaki Hendricks fourth. Danie Sandenbergh was back on four wheels to finish fifth and in sixth it was Shaun Liebenberg. Adriano Ferroli pipped Mark Fontini by 0.277 seconds in class C with Tristan Joubert third, Daniel Munna fourth, Ejaaz Majiet fifth and Ismail Davids sixth.
Overall Marco Busi took class A from Nathan Victor and Schalk Geldenhuys with Jurie Swart fourth, Oliver Hintenaus fifth and Ian Kapp sixth. Dario Busi won class B from Nur Abass, Mohammed T Khalfey, Zaki Hendricks, Danie Sandenbergh and Faizel Jacobs. Mark Fontini is first in Class C with Adriano Ferroli second, Daniel Munna third, Zac Laden fourth, Ejaaz Majiet fifth and Ismail Davids sixth.
Le Joubert Sport & GT Cars 2×10 Laps
Gary Kieswetter claimed opening honours in his Advanced Packaging Technologies 43 Ginetta G57 with a fastest lap of 1min11.547 ahead of a flamboyant Charl Visser in his Charl Electrical Engineering 33 Porsche GT3 4.0, with Noël Greyling third in his revamped 7 FoodGistics Porsche 992 Cup Car.
That incredible Fulloutput Lotus 7 of Clinton Thorne came home fourth with Connor Kilbride fifth in his Racing Spirit 42 BMW M3. André Brink completed the top six in his SSB Transport 48 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup.
Troy Dolinschek made his debut in the 433 Advanced Packaging Technology Ginetta G57 and managed 1min10.245 enroute to victory in Heat 2. Expect to see this Ginetta on the Endurance circuit in 2025 with Gary and Troy behind the wheel.
Charl Visser got down to some serious driving enroute to the second spot with Oliver Hintenaus placing his unique Coastal Panlebeaters 76 Ligier JS P4 third and in fourth, it was Noël Greyling in the FoodGistics 7 Porsche 992 Cup Car.
Overall it was Charl Visser winning from Noël Greyling and Connor Kilbride with Maarten Prins fourth, Tristan de Nobrega fifth and André Brink sixth. Dawie Joubert was a somewhat misplaced winner of class C in a “new” 9 Lotus Exige – VW from Gavin Gorman and Simeon Penev. Ray Farnham claiming class D from Steve Humble and Brett Swanevelder.
Thermo Fires Clubman Saloons 2×8 Laps
Steven Heydenrych took overall victory in the Origen Oils 10A Nissan Skyline R33 with Michael le Sueuer second in the New Engineering 64A VW Golf Mki. Jaco Lambert was third in the Lawntech 29B VW Polo and in fourth spot, it was Kyle Visser in his Charl Engineering 337A VW Polo. Kai van Zyl is fifth and Willem Swart is sixth.
Faizal Jacobs, Century Karting 144 BMW E46 M3, winning class C and Jemma Olen, Bridgestone 36D BMW 328i, class D. Ruan Gouws had a monumental off in Pertamina Fastron on the final lap of H2 when his Auto Possible 9E VW Golf MkI suffered complete brake failure. Almost thankfully the Golf nose dived the tip of the banking and rolled onto its roof. Some relief to see Ruan slide out of the wreck. Scoring slips a lap thus he still managed to win class E despite the car being turned into scrap. Azhar David’s winning class F in his College of Cape Town 303F VW Jetta 1.8.
Laude Classic Cars 2×9 Laps
Facing 3-1 odds in class A PW Louw saw his chances improve when two of the Ford challengers expired early. Taking a win in the second heat should have the blue oval drivers take heed of this fast-improving Mazda RX7. This little ankle-biter is going to keep those V8s honest going forward and Michae Hitchcock was made to work for overall victory in the Cross Cape Forklift Services 67A Ford Mustang V8..
Trevor Momberg remains the class B king in the 73B All Scale Ford Capri with Ferdi Mouton certainly no rollover in his Cross Cape Forklift Services 68B Ford Mustang Notchback V8.
Deon Conradie has never worked harder for a class win in the Garage 86 Toyota Conquest RSi. Dion Valentine is all over the Toyota like a rash in the incredibly quick Leyland 38C Mini 1275. A most entertaining dual that lasted two heats.
Calvin Beekman still ruling the class E roost in that Rob Tissington 42E Morris Minor 1293cc.
Kaltron Fine Cars 2×9 Laps
On track, the Kaltron Fine Cars were won by Coenrad Matthee in his snake eyes 928 Porsche 928 with Dave Alexander charging hard in the Piripiri Racing 44 Morgan Plus 4 and Jake Wallage third in his Jaguar.
BMW CCCT 2×8 Laps
No doubt pretty spectacular cars at the front of the field, but reliability issues reduced the numbers rapidly.
No class A or B cars reflect in the final overall result as Daanyaal Coetzee took top honours in his MYH Motorsport 12C BMW 3.2 with Connor Kilbride second in his Racing Spirit 42D BMW E36 328i and in third spot it was Eerick Horn in his 51F BMW E36 328i.
James King drove his heart out in the Kings 7F BMW E36 328i and closed the day with a number of crowd-pleasing 360’s. Kobus de Kock is proving to be quite a neat driver in the fifth spot with his Lemon 77F BMW E36 328i and the top six completed by Hermanus Huysamen in his 501F E36 BMW 328i.
Sealpro Winelands SBK – SBK Challenge – Masters – 600cc 2×9 Laps
Fairly testing conditions in the strong wind for these machines but as usual, the trio at the front did not disappoint. Kewyn Snyman winning heat one but then dropping from the second saw Slade van Niekerk take the final overall victory on his Project Sixty SA 111 Kawasaki ZX10R from Tristin Pienaar on the Missile Motorcycles 50 BMW S1000R and Allan-Jonn Venter on his ailing Truevine 39 Kawasaki ZX10R.
Mike Hunter claimed the 600cc category aboard his LLG Properties 37 Kawasaki ZX6R whilst Gerhard Very took top honours in the SBK Challenge aboard his Sealpro Winelands 21 Kawasaki ZX10R.
