Jason holds Astron Energy Polo Cup aces into second half

Jason Loosemore is the man to beat as the Astron Energy Polo Cup heads to the daunting East London Grand Prix Circuit Extreme Festival for the fifth of seven championship rounds on Saturday 27 July. The KZN driver consolidated his title advantage over Cape rival Nathan Victor last time out, but Wayne Masters has Derick Smalberger edging ever closer in the Astron Energy Polo Masters chase. Volkswagen rookie Kyle Visser is meanwhile determined to climb up the overall Cup podium.

Championship leader, Richards Bay oval track star Loosemore dominated the previous round at Gqeberha’s Aldo Scribante Race Track to finally put a little championship light between his Security Fencing & Alarms Team Red Polo and principal title rival, former motocross rider Nathan Victor’s Summit Racing car. Victor will not take matters lying down however, and with seven races still to go, anything can, and will happen as the duelling duo continue in their intense title fight.

It’s a far closer fight for third however. Just a single championship point separates old Gauteng rivals and former teammates, Ethan Coetzee’s JRT Racing Experience Polo and Fast 5 lad Mo Karodia. They have built a handy buffer up over another close three-way battle for fifth. That’s between the best of the Polo Cup first year drivers in Volkswagen Motorsport rookie Kyle Visser, Gqeberha racer Jeandre Marais’ Syrabix Team Red car, and Sabertek comeback kid Charl Smalberger. Just three points split that trio.

Next up comes another three-way spat between ever-improving trio, newcomer, Dainfern Dental Dr Hannes Scheepers and Team Red drivers Roshaan Goodman and AF Fans lady teammate Tyler Robinson, who has endured more than her share of bad luck so far this season. Nirav Singh’s Racing Spirit entry, FSS lad Pierluigi Muzzulini, the teenage Bjorn Bertholdt and talking about luckless, the recently returning Rory Atkinson follow, with any of them more than capable of surprising.

Moving on to the Astron Energy Polo Masters, Wayne Masters appeared to have things under control in his Alpha FSS Polo before Derick Smalberger all of a sudden found his mojo in his Sabertek car. Derick has now jumped John Kruger’s Habot Lubricants Polo for second and closed right down on Masters to deliver a thrilling Masters class title fight. PABAR man Mike Barbaglia is their closest rival ahead of Luigi Ferro’s Alpha FSS entry, quick ATE Brakes lady Elna Croeser, and Chris Dale’s Dale Automation Polo.

The East London Grand Prix Circuit always makes for thrilling Astron Energy Polo Cup racing. Next week’s Extreme Festival races will be no different. Sounds like a cracking prospect for some proper Saturday entertainment for anyone looking for a bit of fun in the Border region this weekend. The East London Extreme Festival Astron Energy Polo Cup races will also be live streamed on https://extremefestival.co.za/live/.
