Regional Extreme Festival limbering up for the big one

Among the highlights of the 2025 Extreme Festival Presented by Coca-Cola, five top Regional classes will be joining the top National classes for a blockbuster double header Saturday at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 12 April. So while Gauteng fans will be treated to their first taste of National action this weekend, they will also be thrilled by the best in local action at the epic Johannesburg racetrack.

Headed by the thundering Dunlop V8 Supercars, Jozi’s home heroes will see Warren Lombard and the legend himself, Ben Morgenrood’s Mustangs go up against Thomas Reib’s Lumina. They won’t have it all that easy as former champion Franco di Matteo makes a welcome return in his Jaguar, while Antonie Marx’s Holden and rookie Wayne Spicer’s Jaguar are the GT2 cars to watch.

It’s treachery versus exuberance in ATE VW Challenge, where 17-year old Jayden Goosen takes on veteran Wayne Masters, with the likes of Judd Bertholdt and Ian Walker among the men ready to pick up the Class A pieces. Champion Stuart Mack is the Class B man to beat with Anthony Lessing and Francis Aldrich among his rivals giving it their best shot. Mitch Coetzee also remains unbeaten in Class C, but he has Adriaan de Beer, Kyle Petersen, and Stuart Konig on his case, while Michael Zapheriou makes a heroic comeback a year on from his horror Kyalami accident.

With too many cars for just one race, the BMW M Performance Parts Race Series is split up into two big and small class races. In the ABC race, top class men Bob Neill and Leon Loubser and Fabio Fedetto will fight it out ahead of Nek Makris, Renier Smiths and Andreas in Class B and Salvi Gualtieri, Oz Biagioni and Reinhardt in C. The DEF race will see Bernard de Gouveia and Paolo Cavalieri tussle in D, Claudio Jardim and Eddie Rodrigues in E and Shaun Dodd and Justin Brown fighting over Class F.

Expect DOE Formula Vee with CIM Lubricants to deliver another thrilling couple of sixtieth birthday episodes between champion Lendl Jansen, MD Bester and Vaughn and Peter Hills, Gert van den Berg, Kyle Watt, and the rest. Variety is the spice of life in Ferro Energia 111 GT Sports and Saloons, where the likes of George Economides’ turbo Golf, Mark du Toit’s BMW Z4 and Wayne Robb’s Focus ST take on all form of rivals on a packed Kyalami grid. They’re joined by the SuperHatch gang including Lenard Archer’s Getz, Tyron Pillay’s Golf and Keagan Nathan and Melanie Spurr’s Polos.
