This coming Saturday (15 April) will see the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy (TGRJA) continue its pursuit of regional championship honours in Round 3 of the MSA Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship, scheduled for the Formula-K Kart Circuit, Benoni.
The 2023 season consists of six rounds, with three scoring heats, of which each competitor forfeits their three lowest-scoring individual heats. Points-table calculations reflect the net position.
In the Mini MAX class, Reagile Mailula occupies the second position trailing the championship leader by six points heading into the weekend. The previous round, held at the same venue, saw Mailula win. He is eager to finish the weekend on top again, potentially promoting him up the championship points table to lead into the second half of the season. Emma-Rose Dowling will be searching for her maiden podium result since graduating from the Micro MAX class at the start of the season. Thus far, she has accumulated four fourth places but has been edging closer to the top three. Finding herself eight points adrift of third place, she heads up the midfield contest.
Kent Swarts holds a net lead of six points in the Junior MAX class following a dominant performance last time out. Swartz, the latest addition to the TGRJA line-up, will aim to consolidate his lead this coming weekend in a highly competitive class.
Reigning Junior MAX champion KC Ensor-Smith heads up the Senior MAX class with five wins from six starts, including a perfect score in Round 2. Heading into Round 3, the TGRJA driver controls this class, with stable-mate Olerato Sekudu occupying second and recording the remaining heat win. Both are eager to cross the season’s midway mark with a firm grip on the class.
Kian Grotis recommences his 2023 DD2 campaign having to play catch up. With 70 points to his name, he is currently 10th in the championship following his exclusion from the season-opening heat, resulting in only two point-scoring heats considered. Despite this, Grottis has won three of the five remaining heats, and another strong performance could propel him up the order.
A Warm-Up Session followed by Qualifying precede three race heats before the winner for the round is declared. Spectator entry will be free of charge.
