KC Ensor Smith continued where he left off in the previous round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships with another dominant performance in Senior MAX at the weekend. Ensor Smith claimed all three heat victories at the Formula-K Kart Circuit to emerge as the Round 3 winner.
After qualifying in the pole position, the reigning national Junior MAX champion performed sublimely. Winning all three heats comfortably, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy driver crossed the finish line more than five seconds ahead of his competitors each time. He also recorded the day’s quickest lap, half-a-second quicker than anyone else. The Mpumalanga teenager extends his lead in the regional championship following a full haul of points (105).
“It was undoubtedly a good day for the team and me. I was held up somewhat during qualifying, but I could still set the best time to take pole once I had some clear track. That pretty much set up my weekend. The kart was really strong today, and I must thank the team for the hard work. It’s also the perfect preparation for the national in two weeks’ time,” said Ensor Smith.
Round 2 of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge commences on 28-29 April at the Formula-K Kart Circuit.
