South African motorsport driver Josh le Roux has announced that he will be competing in the BMW M2 Cup in Germany in 2024. The 17-year-old talent will join the Project 1 team, which has a successful track record in various racing series.
Le Roux, who started racing in 2016, has impressed with his performances in the Global Touring Cars (GTC) series in South Africa, as well as the Investchem Formula 1600 Single Seater Championship.
“I am thrilled to take on the new challenge of racing in Europe, where I will be facing some of the best drivers in the world. I am looking forward to learning from my experienced teammates and developing my skills in the BMW M2 CS Racing car, which is a real beast,” expressed Le Roux.
“I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity to race in the BMW M2 Cup in Germany in 2024. It has always been my dream to race in Europe and I can’t wait to get started. I want to thank Project 1 for their trust and support, as well as my sponsors and family for making this possible. I am ready to give it my all and represent South Africa with pride,” he said.
The BMW M2 Cup will consist of 14 races, held at seven different circuits in Germany, including the legendary Nürburgring and Hockenheimring. The series aims to provide a platform for young and talented drivers to showcase their skills and progress in their careers.
Project 1 team principal Axel Funke said he was delighted to welcome Le Roux to the team and praised his potential and achievements. He said he was confident that Le Roux would adapt quickly to the new environment and car and deliver strong results.
“Josh is a very promising driver who has shown great speed and consistency in South Africa. We are very happy to have him on board for the BMW M2 Cup Germany in 2024. He has a lot of talent and passion, and we are sure that he will fit in well with our team and our philosophy. We are looking forward to working with him and helping him grow as a driver and a person,” he said.
Le Roux will make his debut in the BMW M2 Cup Germany at the season opener at Oschersleben on April 24-25, 2024.
