2 class wins, 5 podiums 4 Hondas in the top 10
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop Tyres enjoyed a stunning day of racing in the Delmas sixth round of the GXCC Gauteng Cross Country Motorcycle Championship on Saturday. The Red Rockets certainly made their mark, with four Hondas in the overall top ten, five podium places and two class wins on tough track where treacherous river crossings proved as challenging as the dry and dusty conditions.
“UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing enjoyed a brilliant day in Delmas today,” team boss Harry Grobler confirmed. “Hayden Louw was a brilliant second overall and also second in OR1 Pro, Louwrens Mahoney stormed home sixth overall to take yet another Seniors victory and Tyron Beverley came home a fine eighth and third in OR3. Nathan Westerdale was a fine 12th overall on his way to a High School team 1-2 from Seth Young and Warrick van Schalkwyk’s fight back to fourth in Masters. Was spectacular.”
Hayden Louw was a consistent factor in the fight for the overall lead as he stormed home second overall and second in OR1 Pro on his UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda CRF 450 RX on his first day in anger in the saddle following a break to recover from injury. Louwrens Mahoney continued unbeaten in the 2024 Senior chase with yet another most impressive sixth overall on his similar machine to strengthen his grip on this year’s Gauteng title.
Tyron Beverley came home two places behind Mahoney overall as he clinched a popular podium third in OR3 Pro following a steady climb through the leading pack aboard his UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda CRF 250 RX. Another man to fight back through the pack, Warrick van Schalkwyk lost a huge amount of time when he drowned his UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda CRF 450 RX in one of those river crossings. His ride back to fourth in Masters was meteoric.
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop 125 cc High School duo Nathan Westerdale and Seth Young completed a fine weekend for the team in Mpumalanga with a splendid 1-2 in class. Westerdale’s performance challenging the top ten aboard his little 125 being one of the highlights of a great day at the races.
“Congratulations to the lads and the rest of our incredible team on another great achievement in Delmas this weekend. It’s been a severely challenging season for us, yet the guys continue to shine and develop on all fronts, so well done, one and all.” UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop now heads to the 14 September SA National Cross Country final in Bloemfontein, before the 5 October GXCC round 7.
