Team, event rides in honour of Mike Pentecost
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop Tyres celebrated the life of team leader Mike Pentecost with a strong performance in the fifth round 2024 Gauteng GXCC Gauteng Cross Country Motorcycle Championship at Leandra on Saturday. Mike died after a fall at the previous race in June.
“We celebrated the life of our hero, friend and team leader Mike Pentecost team boss Harry Grobler explained. “UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing thanks the GXCC and all its teams, riders and fans, and the entire Gauteng cross country racing community for honouring Mike’s life at Leandra this past weekend.”
UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop Tyres also starred as it raced in its hero’s memory. Louwrens Mahoney continued to stamp authority with yet another over-30s Masters class win in sixth overall, one place clear of OR3 teammate Tyron Beverley. The team’s High School riders Nathan Westerdale and Murray Smith delivered yet another class 1-2, Warrick van Schalkwyk was a strong second in Masters. Blake Young brought it home sixth in OR3 and Ruald Potgieter impressed in 85cc.
“Our team rose to the occasion to do Mike proud today,” Harry Grobler concluded. “Louwrens Mahoney continued unbeaten in the Senior race with a brilliant fifth overall, just ahead of our top OR3 man Tyron Beverley. Nathan Westerdale and Murray Smith maintained our Highschool dominance, and Warrick van Schalkwyk was steady as always with second in Masters.

I am sure that wherever he is, Mike is just as proud.” UB Leisure TFC Sleepover Honda Wing Racing with Tork Craft and Dunlop Tyres returns to National action in the Western Cape next on 10 August, two weeks before its following GXCC appointment Saturday 24 August.
