Pabar VW Challenge set to rock Aldo Scribante
Battle lines are drawn as the Gauteng Pabar VW Challenge heads out of town for its second meeting on the trot at Aldo Scribante, Saturday 2 September. Pabar VW Challenge will re-join the Northern Regions Extreme Festival roadshow for its annual away weekend at the Gqeberha Race Track.
It’s also the popular series’ second away trip in three weeks, and with two of the three class titles being fought out punch-by-punch, as some say, there’s no rest for the wicked. Overall however, dominant Class C lad Yotti Nousias has to simply keep on going as he has at the head of the championship table. But it’s a very different story in Classes A and B.
Rory Atkinson’s successful sortie at the KZN Dezzi Raceway aboard his BHIT Industrial Transport Polo last time out sees him back in the yo-yo all Polo 6R top class A championship lead over Bevin Masters’ similar CPS Warehouse machine, and brother Wayne in his Performance Masters version.
Norbrake lad Dean Ross sounded a warning shot in his best Class A outing yet at Dezzi and he’s one to watch. As are proven contenders Waldie Meintjes and Sabertek racer Charl Smalberger, who return after skipping the previous race. Behind them, watch for the regular battle between old rivals Mike Barbaglia’s Pabar Polo and Chris Dale’s Blue Belt Pozidrive car.
Luigi Ferro’s Eco Simply Solar Polo, Mydi Mfana MDS version and lady racer Nicole Lombard’s PSA Africa machine will just be looking for a little luck at the Bay, while Dewald Theron is back with his Garrun car. There are also two wildcard entries from Polo Cup regulars, Cape lad Nathan Victor and local hope Jeandre Marais Summit in a pair of Summit Racing cars.
Just four points separate another Polo Cup double agent, young Ethan Coetzee’s JRT Racing Experiences Polo and reigning champion Hannes Scheepers’ similar Dainfern Dental version out on their own at the top in Class B. Ross Butt has quietly amassed the points to emerge third with Elna Croeser’s ATE Brakes Polo and Jacques Hayes’ Platinum Wheels car in chase.
Dubcorp lad Shiren Rajpaul, Fast 5 driver Mo Karodia, Tinahe Ncube’s Eco Simply Solar car and Hot 102.7 FM lass Charisse van der Merwe follow ahead of Nathan’s man Stuart Mack, Chris Davison Himoinsa car, Xander Human, JRT duo Mitch Coetzee and Milan Emslie. Jesus Saves’ Francois van Zyl will race the prototype Class X turbo-litre Polo.
It’s not quite all over bar the shouting for Yotti Nousias and his We Fix Cars Vivo in Class C, but he has a mighty lead over Philip Croeser’s ATE version. If Renergen lad Bjorn Bertholdt had any luck, that’s nothing at all, so the youngster is desperate for a clean weekend in PE, with Goosemotorsport’s Andy Gossman and Allan Pereira’s Daisy also in the hunt.
The Class A and C cars will qualify and race together as always at Aldo Scribante, while Class B races on its own alongside a full day of Gauteng Northern Regions away race action at the Gqeberha race track. Sounds like a fine day out for Gqeberha’s racing faithful!
