Investchem Formula 1600 rookie Mikel Bezuidenhout will make his first appearance in a single-seater at Zwartkops Raceway this weekend as the third round of the National Extreme Festival gets underway.

Mikel, who competes in karting and circuit racing, misses out on the National ROK Cup Karting Championships this weekend. Unfortunately, a clash of dates sees the Johannesburg teenager opting to race his MTN Cosmo-Net / Huawei Mobile South Africa-backed Mygale as he pursues a career in motorsport. Mikel has made an impressive start to his 2024 season scoring points in both rounds so far and occupies eighth in the championship that sees him as the second highest placed rookie.

“It’s my first season in circuit racing, and my goal is to learn, improve and look at other forms of racing with an eye on a career in the sport. This weekend is also one I am looking forward to, as it is the only circuit on the calendar that I’ve driven on ahead of a championship round. The decision therefore to skip karting was really an easy one. Having said that all my attention will therefore be on competing and doing well this weekend,” said Mikel.

Mikel will use three practice sessions on Friday to fine-tune his setup ahead of qualifying and two 10-lap races on Saturday.

Join Mikel for a day of adrenaline-fueled racing! The 15-race programme kicks off at 10:05 on Saturday. Spectator tickets are readily available at the Zwartkops Raceway entrance or can be conveniently purchased by emailing info@zwartkops.co.za Can’t make it to the race? Don’t worry; the entire race day will also be broadcast live on https://extremefestival.co.za/live/.
