Formula-K Raceway will host the penultimate round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships this weekend, where Bambino championship leader Alonzo de Oliveira is keen to extend his advantage.
Heading to Benoni, the young Johannesburg driver leads out second-placed rival Sebastian Shuttleworth by 24 points. With 12 victories and five further podiums, Alonzo will want to put down an early marker on Saturday morning and add to his wins column in the hope that he can clinch the title ahead of the final round in November.
“It’s been a competitive season where Sebastian and I have gone toe-to-toe at every round. This weekend will be no different and another tough battle. We’ve only raced at FK once this season during the national, so it’s a nice change. It’s quite a short lap, and the slightest mistake can leave you with much to make up. I will give it my all and hope for the best possible result.”
Saturday’s proceedings will kick off with a Warm-Up Session, followed by Qualifying before three race heats to determine the day’s winner. Spectators are allowed free entry, and a fully licensed bar and restaurant will be available to patrons.
Alonzo thanks NBR Racing, S.Y. Meats Wholesale Butchery, Y2K Audio Germiston, MSLB Projects, Motorsport Fanatix and Amigos Portugueses.
