The curtain is set to fall on the 2024 Mobil 1 V8 Supercar Championship this weekend, with the final round of the “rolling thunder” ready to entertain the Zwartkops Raceway faithful.
While the GT championship is yet to be decided, Julian Fameliaris has a commanding lead heading to the Pretoria circuit. His 38-point lead has come courtesy of victories at every round this season, something no other driver has been able to replicate. His form at Zwartkops has also been phenomenal, with the Lube-Net / Di Matteo Racing Chevrolet Corvette driver making it a clean sweep at the previous round there.
“The weekend is perfectly set up for me to retain my title, but it isn’t guaranteed. There is still work to do, and we need to stay sharp. While victory isn’t essential, I’m not the type to just play it safe; we’re all here to race. We owe it to our sponsors and our fans. That said, I know there are several drivers who would love to end their season with a win or two.”
The action kicks off on Friday with three practice sessions before drivers head out for qualifying at 09:40 on Saturday. The first race will start at 13:20 and will be ten laps long. The second race, which has a reverse grid format, will begin at 16:10 and consist of 12 laps.
Spectator tickets will be available at the Zwartkops Raceway entrance, or alternatively, you can watch the race day program live on the Extreme Festival website (https://extremefestival.co.za/live/).
Fameliaris would like to thank Di Matteo Racing and Gavin Wilkin Racing for making his 2024 campaign possible. In addition, he also wants to acknowledge and thank African Group Lubricants for making the championship a reality. For more information, please visit https://aglubricants.co.za/
