KC Ensor-Smith heads to the final round of the Investchem Formula 1600 with a mathematical chance of being crowned champion but will have to record a grand slam by taking the pole, recording the fastest lap and winning both races. In addition, he would need his main championship rival to score as few points as possible.

Ranked second in the points standings, KC is 10 points behind with 22 points on offer this weekend. While the teenager from Witbank has won three times already this season, he finished as runner-up at the first Zwartkops outing despite setting the fastest race lap of the weekend.

“It might seem like all the pressure is on me to perform, but I don’t see it that way. I’m pretty relaxed and will go about my weekend like any other. The pressure will be on Jagger to make sure he doesn’t make any mistakes or not score any points. Our car is pretty well hooked up, and we’ve improved it since our last outing to Zwartkops. The team and I know what we need to do, so let’s see how this weekend unfolds,” said KC.

While KC knows exactly what is expected of him, this weekend will not only see the championship’s final champion crowned, but it will also be the last time this formula races on the national tour. It is set to be replaced by MSA4 in 2025, South Africa’s newest single-seater series.

Tickets can be purchased at the gates on Saturday or by emailing Zwartkops Raceway (info@zwartkops.co.za) beforehand. The entire race day programme, starting at 10:20, will also be broadcast live on https://extremefestival.co.za/live/.
