The curtain falls on the National Extreme Festival this weekend, with its final round at Zwartkops Raceway. Racing enthusiasts are in for a treat as they witness the talent-filled Investchem Formula 1600 championship conclude.
KC Ensor-Smith, who made his series and main-circuit debut at the season-opening Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit round, heads into the weekend ranked sixth in the championship. Six points adrift of fifth place, the Witbank teenager has a realistic chance of overtaking Siyabonga Mankonkwana in the standings but would have to finish consistently on the podium, something he has managed once this season. His recent form, however, could see him pull it off to end his debut single-seater season on a high.
“We head into the weekend with nothing to lose and a place to gain. More importantly, I would love nothing more than to clinch my first win, but it will be challenging around the tighter Zwartkops circuit. Regardless, I’ll be giving it my best attempt,” stated Ensor-Smith.
Friday will see three practice sessions ahead of the all-important qualifying session on Saturday morning (08:05). Two races (11:50 and 15:15) will conclude the day’s racing. Spectators are welcomed with tickets on sale at the gate on Saturday.
