KC Ensor-Smith astonished all this weekend, recording a clean sweep at Aldo Scribante Raceway and accumulating valuable points in his Investchem Formula 1600 Championship bid.

Despite arriving at the Gqeberha circuit eight points behind championship leader Jagger Robinson, KC Ensor-Smith’s determination was unwavering. He had been pushing Robertson throughout the season and recording several runner-up finishes. His persistence paid off on Saturday as he claimed his maiden pole position and the first of two victories.

Race 1 would see Ensor-Smith lead into the opening corner and maintain the position across the 12-lap race to record his maiden victory in South Africa’s premier single-seater class. In the second and final race of the day, Ensor-Smith would again take a lights-to-flag win ahead of a charging Robertson. With points for pole position and the fastest lap, along with two victories, Ensor-Smith maximized his points tally to keep his title bid alive.

“I could not have asked for a better weekend of results. The car was perfect, and I was able to extract the maximum out of the setup. Clinching my first pole and my first win is really special and very rewarding. We’ve worked hard and have been up there all season, lacking that little bit extra that we found around the (Aldo) Scribante circuit. It’s a real confidence booster heading into the next round, and I’m hoping we can keep the momentum going,” said KC.

Round 5 of the Investchem Formula 1600 Championship returns to the Border Motorsport East London Grand Prix Circuit on 26-27 July 2024.

Ensor-Smith thanks Vito Frameless, African Heating, Master Stairs and Sparco for their support.
