Round 3 of the National ROK Cup Kart Championship resumes this coming weekend, with the competition heading to the friendly city of Gqeberha. In his first full season of Mini ROK competition, former regional Bambino karting champion and Trevpar World-backed driver Diego Antunes will be keen on improving his position in the points standings. The Johannesburg driver currently occupies ninth place on the championship leaderboard. Previous outings to the circuit saw Diego compete in the Kid ROK class, where he recorded a fifth-best finish.
The Celso Scribante Raceway is home to the Algoa Kart and Motorcycle Club and will host its second karting national in as many years. Located near the city’s airport, the circuit is technical by nature, with a host of fast bends and tight turns. Compared to some of the other circuits on the ROK calendar, it is more abrasive and, therefore, a lot harder on tyres. From a spectating point of view, the circuit offers a complete view and is an excellent venue for a family outing.
It all kicks off on Friday with several practice sessions ahead of the all-important qualifying session on Saturday morning. Once the starting grids have been determined, three race heats will decide the day’s winner.
Diego extends his thanks to Trevpar World and NBR Racing.
