Can anyone stop Troy Dolinschek at Gqeberha’s Extreme Festival
The Investchem Formula 1600 championship heads to a midwinter Aldo Scribante racetrack in Nelson Mandela Bay for its mid-season Extreme Festival round on 17 June, with one question on everyone’s minds. Can anyone stop Cape Town lad Troy Dolinschek from running away with the 2023 Investchem Formula 1600 title?
Troy swept into the championship lead of with a dominant double win at Zwartkops Raceway’s Extreme Festival in Pretoria in May. Now all that remains to be seen, is if the young man can once again come, see, and conquer Gqeberha in his Sujean Property Investments Mygale. Rest assured that there’s a pack of wings and slicks young guns, who have every intention of stemming that Dolinschek tide.
Erstwhile championship leader Gerard Geldenhuys is principal among them in his Abacus Divisions entry among the all-Mygale grid. Geldenhuys went toe to toe with Dolinschek in the first two rounds, so be sure that he will be out for a bit of Aldo Scribante revenge. Gerhard however has just as big a target on his back. Veteran Nicholas van Weely’s Magnificent Paints & Hardware machine and other Capetonian Jason Coetzee’s Mint Wrapworks car will take aim from far championship position that’s too close for comfort.
Never mind the rest. Rookie karting sensation KC Ensor-Smith is improving by the race in his Vitro Frameless Glass car and has his sights on a maiden main circuit victory. Investchem lad Siyabonga Mankonkwana is another who has the potential to upset, while sibling Antwan Geldenhuys in the second Abacus Divisions car, and Alex Vos’ Investchem DV Building Supplies Mygale have both won before.
Investchem pair, F1600 stalwart, Andrew Schofield is another driver who will be looking for a better weekend in his Fly Safair car, while Storm Lanfear has made recent progress in his AMD version. He should continue his tussle with Production X driver Shrien Naidoo, and Karabo Malemela’s KMFT Morita Mygale.
Either way, the quick and nimble wings and slicks Investchem Formula 1600 single seaters will be at their absolute finest around the tight, twisty but quick Aldo Scribante. Don’t miss these young guns at in Gqeberha’s midwinter 17 June Extreme Festival!
