Luhan De Wet, a young kart racer (7) from Centurion, is currently at the top of the Bambino championship standings for the MSA Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship season, tied on points with fellow 2022 rookie Adriaan Steyn. The pair have consistently performed well and have been the standout drivers in their category, matching each other in heats throughout the season’s first three rounds.
While they are equal on points (204) after dropping their three lowest counting results, De Wet officially tops the list, having recorded nine podiums (four wins, four runner-up places and a third). With the championship returning to Zwartkops Kart Raceway this weekend, the same venue where the opening round was held, De Wet is confident of his chances of taking the outright lead in the championship.
“It was always going to be a closely-contested championship this season, and the points reflect that. However, I’ve been in good form lately, and the kart has been superb. I plan to carry that form into this round, where I aim to win and take the outright championship lead,” stated De Wet.
De Wet thanks the support of De Wet Automotive Performance Service & Repairs, Duratec Batteries Centurion, Alunite Pretoria and NBR Racing. Saturday will commence with a Warm-Up Session followed by Qualifying before three race heats conclude the day’s racing. Entry is free, and spectators are encouraged to attend.
