Luhan De Wet made an impressive Micro MAX debut at the weekend, finishing in the top 10 following the conclusion of the MSA Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship at the Formula-K Kart Circuit, Benoni.
After qualifying in an impressive fifth on Saturday morning, the 2023 National Cadet Champion competed in his first-ever Micro MAX heat, finishing eighth. Racing under the banner of WORR Motorsport for the first time, De Wet was unfortunate not to make the start of Heat 2 after a rookie mistake saw him sidelined on the warm-up lap and unable to rejoin the pack. Despite being the youngest driver on the grid, De Wet bounced back, recording his best result (seventh) in the final heat to finish tenth in a class filled with older and more seasoned campaigners.
“It was an exciting day,” stated Sharl De Wet, Luhan’s father. “We arrived here with little expectation after deciding to end our season in next year’s Micro MAX kart. It allowed us some insight into what lies ahead for Luhan and offered up some good data to work from. I’m very proud of the way that he performed today despite the minor setback. I believe he also integrated well into the new team. We are certainly looking forward to 2024.”
De Wet thanks his sponsors De Wet Automotive Performance Service and Repairs, Duratec Batteries Centurion and Alunite Pretoria.
