In the eleventh Grand Prix of the year, LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 rider Darryn Binder grabbed nine valuable world championship points with a strong seventh place.

For Darryn, the weekend in Austria went to plan. The South African quickly familiarised himself with the 4.35 km long circuit and secured himself twelfth place on the grid in Qualifying 2, from where he got off to a good start and made his way straight into the top 10 on Sunday. Within a few laps, the 26-year-old found himself in eighth place, which he then further improved to P7.

With this seventh place, Darryn collects nine points, which sees him jump from 20th to 16th place in the world championship. In general, Binder has shown good development recently, which he would like to continue together with his crew when the next round starts in Aragon in a fortnight’s time.

“I’m really happy with the whole weekend in general. I made good steps forward and was in the top ten in almost all the sessions. A small mistake in qualifying left me in 12th and I would have loved to have been further forward on the grid because during the race it was quite difficult to make passes. I did a good job. We’re heading in the right direction and after a few more top tens we can start thinking about the top five. We just have to keep chipping away.”
