Andrew had Porsche pace, but gremlins had other ideas
Cape Town race driver Andrew Rackstraw had great pace at Croft over the weekend, but his Investchem Porsche Carrera Cup GB 911 had other ideas. Electronic gremlins raised their heads early in the weekend and no matter what the team did, they could not rid the car of its evils. Still, Andrew qualified seventh and fought back to fifth and second rookie in race 1, but the car would just not run in the second heat.
“It’s just the way it is,” Andrew rued. “That’s motor racing for you! We had a little misfire throughout the weekend and no matter what we did, it just kept on coming back. So I was happy to qualify reasonably within the top ten, but then we nearly missed the first race start as we tried to find the problem. We changed everything ,from the ECU to the throttle body and the rest.
“The first race went pretty well and I was able to pick up a couple of places and bring it home fifth. Unfortunately the problem escalated in race 2 and the car just would not run. Somehow it came right after we’d lost four laps and just to add insult to injury, I was able to go out and set the fastest lap once we got it to run again! What could have been…
Anyway, frustrating as Croft was, it’s onward and upward to Knockhill in Scotland next, so we have two weeks to rid the car of its gremlin and go chase a few more podiums and wins there. Special thanks to Jayde Kruger and my JTR Racing team for all the effort this weekend. Now for Knockhill over the 10-11 August weekend.”
