National ROK Cup karting returns this weekend with Round 2 of the championship, heading to the Formula-K Kart Circuit in Benoni, Gauteng. Kayde Cornofsky, currently ranked second in the competition, makes a fourth visit to the circuit following three regional championship outings this season.
Cornofsky hopes to draw on his dominant regional performances that see the Xtreme Racing Team driver lead the Northern Regions ROK Karting Championship following seven victories from nine race heats. While Cornofsky scored three podiums at the national opening round, he missed out on the top step behind Logan Billau and Noah Cronje. He will thus focus on claiming that elusive national victory this weekend.
“This weekend is an important one for us as a team. We are focused on winning at FK, something we have been doing recently. While it adds additional pressure on me as a likely favourite, I will channel that into motivation to perform as best I can. I am purely focused on each session starting on Friday morning, with the sole aim to assist the team with good data for the best setup come race day. Thank you to my sponsors Canario Cornofsky Attorneys, Calisto’s Portuguese Restaurant, Allegiance Properties and Smith Garage.”
Kid ROK competitors will compete over ten laps and race around the 1 570 m anti-clockwise Track-A layout. On Friday, five official practice sessions will precede the afternoon’s qualifying set to start at 3:49 PM. On Saturday, three race heats are scheduled for 10:11 AM, 12:16 PM and 2:19 PM. Races will also be live-streamed on the day, with more information available from the event promoters.
