New reward, thrilling title chase liven up Polo Cup
The 2023 CompCare Polo Cup will take a step or two up when racing resumes at Zwartkops’ Extreme Festival races Saturday 20 May. Not only has last round’s Killarney wildcard winner Giordano Lupini confirmed that he will now race the rest of the season as he attempts to chase down Kyalami winners Charl Visser and Dawie van der Merwe, but Volkswagen Motorsport has also announced an incredible new prize for the 2023 champion.
“Our 2023 CompCare Polo Cup champion will win a Volkswagen Motorsport factory drive in the GTC SupaCup in 2024,” Head of Volkswagen Motorsport Mike Rowe confirmed. “This news will add a significant extra edge to the rest of the 2023, which already appears to be set for a cracking season. May the best man, or woman win!”
That news is huge for the 2023 CompCare Polo Cup championship contenders, among whom another twist has emerged since the previous races at Killarney in March. Kyalami first round winners, championship leader Charl Visser’s Universal Team Red Racing Polo and second man Dawie van der Merwe’s Nathan Motorsport car, QVWI driver Farhaan Basha, and Summit lad Nathan Victor all have something extra to think about heading into Zwartkops.
Giordano Lupini, who arrived as a wildcard entry to dominate the second round at Killarney in his Tork Craft Polo, has secured the budget to complete the season. He will be back at Zwartkops and keen to continue his rise up from fifth in the title table. Behind Gio, impressive Pretoria rookie Anthony Pretorius is looking to bounce back from his big Killarney shunt in his OMP Bucket List Polo. He however also has ever-improving JRT lad Ethan Coetzee, Universal driver Jason Loosemore, and veteran Dean Venter breathing down his neck.
Bryce Pillay‘s Techtisa Polo, Squadra Corse driver Reaobaka Komane, Mo Karodia’s Fast 5 car, Jeandre Marais’ Syrabix entry, AF Fans lass Tyler Robinson and newcomer Raaziegh Harris’ Cooltouch car are all in a title fight of their own. And Roshaan Goodman’s Upward Spiral Polo will be looking for a breakthrough this weekend.
The CompCare Polo Cup action resumes at Zwartkops’ thrilling national Extreme Festival race day on Saturday 20 May. Be there!
