Motorsport enthusiast, Formula 1600 racer, and national kart racer Mikel Bezuidenhout returns to Zwartkops Kart Raceway this weekend for Round 2 of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge. Mikel, who has had a busy start to his motorsport season, will compete in his ninth event of 2024.
This weekend will, however, see the Johannesburg teenager back out in his MTN Cosmo-Net / Vivo Mobile-backed Senior MAX kart, hoping to improve his position in the championship standings. Following a fifth overall finish at the opening Cape Town round, Mikel heads to Zwartkops, brimming with confidence, hoping to take home some silverware.
“I have had a solid start to my Rotax season with a strong result in Cape Town. I hope to continue that form this weekend and improve my results. The team and I have been working hard in preparation for this event, so we are hoping it pays off,” Mikel said.
While the circuit will be open for unofficial practice on Wednesday and Thursday, official practice commences on Friday, with qualifying later in the afternoon. On Saturday, three race heats will determine the overall winner. Entry to the circuit is free, and spectators are encouraged to attend.
