Mikel Bezuidenhout narrowly missed out on an overall Senior MAX podium on Saturday, finishing fourth as Round 3 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships concluded at the Vereeniging Raceway.
After qualifying fifth on Saturday morning, the MTN Cosmo-Net / Vivo Mobile South Africa driver got his day off to a strong start with a runner-up finish in Heat 1. Unable to replicate his podium result, Mikel battled it out for third before the chequered dropped to claim fourth. Heat 3 would be similar, with the Johannesburg teenager finishing fourth on track, but a five-second penalty would drop him to fifth.
Reflecting on the day’s results, Mikel Bezuidenhout’s team expressed optimism. Despite finishing fourth overall, they were in close contention with the front runners, engaging in a battle for the podium throughout. This positive performance bodes well for the upcoming round, and the team is not too disappointed with the day’s results, knowing they had the pace to fight for the podium.
Round 4 of the championship continues on 22 June at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
