Bambino ace Alonzo de Oliveira will make a home race appearance this weekend as the second South African Rotax MAX Challenge round heads to Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
Alonzo had a solid opening round in Cape Town despite missing out on a podium placing and finishing fifth overall. This weekend, therefore, the Johannesburg driver will be eager to put his knowledge of the Pretoria circuit to good use while looking to triumph over his local rival, Sebastian Shuttleworth and the talented contingent of drivers from Cape Town.
“It should be a good couple of races this weekend and I am hoping to beat everyone else. Cape Town was a little tougher for me but being back at home makes me feel more confident,” said Alonzo.
The 1000-metre Zwartkops circuit is Alonzo’s home circuit and boasts a one-of-a-kind flyover, where the circuit crosses over itself. The track’s sloping terrain offers excellent spectator viewing points and promises drivers an exhilarating and challenging ride.
While the circuit will be open for unofficial practice on Wednesday and Thursday, official practice commences on Friday, with qualifying later in the afternoon. On Saturday, three race heats will determine the overall winner. Entry to the circuit is free, and spectators are encouraged to attend.
