The 2025 South African Rotax MAX Challenge kicks off this weekend at the Killarney Kart Circuit in Cape Town, marking the first of four rounds in the national season. Centurion’s Adriaan Steyn, a young driver with a growing list of achievements in his karting career, is among the key contenders in the highly competitive Micro MAX class.
Steyn enters the season as a strong title hopeful after finishing third in last year’s national Micro MAX championship, claiming top rookie honours. His karting pedigree includes a national Bambino title from 2023, and he now looks to build on that success as he continues his rise through the ranks.
While Killarney has not always been Steyn’s strongest track on paper—his best national heat result at the circuit being a third-place finish—his early 2025 performances indicate he is ready to be a regular front-runner. With a well-prepared package and growing confidence, he will aim to fight for top positions from the outset.
The race weekend schedule sees competitors hit the track for multiple practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, with the all-important qualifying session on Friday afternoon. The grid of 16 Micro MAX drivers will then battle it out in three 12-lap heats on Saturday, where consistency and racecraft will be crucial in setting the tone for the championship campaign.
Adriaan is backed by Greensky, Q4 Fuels and Sparco.
