South African karter Aaron Mason made his WSK debut this weekend, competing in the opening round of the WSK Open Series in Franciacorta, Italy. Aaron, who competes locally in Mini ROK with Ricky Perdigao Motorsport, competed in a Mini 60 Tony Kart chassis with Ward Racing under the guidance of Ricky Perdigao.
After participating in multiple practice sessions and qualifying heats, Aaron advanced to the 10-lap final on Sunday, starting from the 23rd position. He had a good start and settled into his position as the 36-kart field completed their opening lap. Although he had made up seven positions on the opening lap, he couldn’t find his rhythm as he became involved in a frantic battle for position. With a further nine laps of racing remaining, Aaron did his utmost to make up the lost positions but would eventually finish in 20th.
Aaron will be back from 10-12 May for Round 2 of the Champions of the Future Academy Program, which is scheduled for the International Lucas Guerrero Karting Circuit in Valencia, Spain.
