During the conclusion of Round 3 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart championships on Saturday at the Vereeniging Raceway, Alonzo de Oliveira, a promising karter, delivered an exceptional performance to extend his lead in the regional Bambino competition.
The young racer of Portuguese descent secured victories in all three heats after clinching the pole position early on Saturday morning. With his exceptional pace, the Trinityhouse Glenvista student recorded the fastest-ever lap time around the Vereeniging circuit as the new circuit record holder for the Bambino class.
“It was a perfect day today for me,” said Alonzo. “My pace was good throughout qualifying, and I could start from pole. In the heats, I could open a gap to the group behind me. I kept focused and kept the pedal pinned to the floor, hoping not to make any mistakes. It worked out well, and I’m grateful to all who supported me.”
Round 4 of the championship continues on 22 June at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
