Mikel Bezuidenhout finished fourth overall in the OK-N class this weekend as the penultimate round of the MSA Northern Regions ROK Kart Championships concluded at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit.
After qualifying in fourth on Saturday morning, the Johannesburg teenager made a solid start to his opening heat, holding onto second position for most of the race before being passed by two competitors to finish just off the podium. In Heat 2, however, Bezuidenhout was able to fend off the challenge of his NBR Karting stablemate, Nico Zafiris, to record his only podium (third) on the day. While the two drivers above battled it out for the final podium position again, Zafiris triumphed, leaving Bezuidenhout to finish fourth in the final heat.
“We never really had the pace to challenge for the win. Instead, we battled for third today. Nico (Zafiris) and I had our own race, and while I enjoyed the battle, it’s not where we want to be fighting. Hopefully, with the final national coming up in a few weeks’ time, we can find some extra pace.”
Bezuidenhout thanks MTN Cosmo-Net and Vivo Mobile for their continued support. While Round 6 of the regional championship concludes on 11 November, Bezuidenhout will prepare for the final national round held at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit on 22-23 September 2023.
