More regional series race on dependable Dunlop rubber

While it’s an accepted fact that Dunlop Motorsport is pretty much the tyre of choice in South African National Championship circuit motor racing, did you know that Dunlop also supplies the lion’s share of top regional racing series with their tyres?

Dunlop is a long time tyre partner to the Pabar VW Challenge and Superhatch classes in the Northern Regions Racing Festival, and to the Cape Alert Engine Parts GTi Challenge. Dunlop has also recently joined forces with Gauteng series, the BMW M Performance Race Series and DOE Formula Vee powered by Lubri Fuel.

“Dunlop Motorsport is delighted to have doubled our involvement in Regional racing over the past few months,” Joanne De Freitas, Dunlop Manager PR & Events explains. “We have enjoyed long relationships with the Cape Alert GTi Challenge and Gauteng Pabar VW Challenge and Superhatch series and we are now delighted to include the upcountry BMW M Performance Race Series and DOE Formula Vees powered by Lubri Fuel to our line-up.

“That is of course over and above our involvement as the tyre of choice in South Africa’s premier national championship Extreme Festival, where Dunlop is the chosen tyre supplier to Global Touring Cars, GTC SupaCup, the CompCare Polo Cup and the GR Racing League. “Each series Dunlop supports on track in South Africa, contributes to our leading road tyre technology.

“Dunlop utilises the same technology, research, development, and key learnings from its global motorsport programs in manufacturing the tyres you drive on every day. That’s why Dunlop’s motorsport heritage, innovation, performance, safety, and durability give you the confidence and an advantage on the road.”

Dunlop’s various regional classes all raced over the past weekend. Masters brothers Bevin and Wayne dominated the VW Challenge races at Zwartkops, while Ross Butt and Ethan Coetzee shared the Class B wins and Yotti Nousias made Class C his own in Pretoria. Down at Killarney meanwhile, Jurie Swart and Clinton Bezuidenhout shared the GTi Challenge wins, the second of which saw the top four split by half a second at the flag.

Back to Zwartkops, Leon Loubser took double BMW Racing Series wins while Lorenzo Gualtieri and Lyle Ramsay shared the B laurels. Alan Hilligenn and Hein van der Merwe took the C wins, Reinhardt Miller, and George Economides each won a D race, and Arri van Heerden took both E heats. Lendl Jansen and Jaco Schriks were first and second in both DOE Formula Vee races and Karel Stols’ Etios dominated Superhatch.

There’s great excitement in the ranks of three of Dunlop’s Race Series, all of which are gearing up for their annual away races. GTi Challenge races at Aldo Scribante in Port Elizabeth on 4 August. The VW Challenge has two away weekends, at Dezzi Raceway on the KZN South Coast, and then together with the BMWs, who race against several other regions’ BMW race cars, once again at Aldo Scribante 2 September.

All Dunlop’s regional series race on Dunlop Direzza control tyres. The ideal tyre for track days, circuit and club racing, autocross, race schools and so much more, Direzza race tyres feature reduced tread depth and a high stability pattern for ultimate grip.

Hardy Dunlop Direzza semi slick tyres also deliver great competition life, are relatively inexpensive to buy, and benefit full Dunlop Racing Support courtesy of ATS Motorsport throughout every Regional and National Extreme Festival race weekend. ATS Motorsport supplies Dunlop Direzza Racing rubber in South Africa.
