Senior MAX rookie Mikel Bezuidenhout makes his first competitive appearance at the Killarney International Raceway’s kart circuit, where he is set to compete in the penultimate round of the MSA South African Rotax MAX Challenge this weekend.
In his first full season of karting since starting in 2022, Bezuidenhout heads to Cape Town, ranked 11th in the championship standings. After a wretched opening round that saw him struggle for pace at iDube, he improved steadily over the season to record an impressive fourth in Heat 2 of Round 2 at Formula- K Kart Circuit. This weekend, the Johannesburg teenager will undoubtedly be pushing himself to record that elusive national podium in one of the most talented Senior MAX fields in recent history.
“It’s daunting to think that after so many races this season, I would still be making my debut at an event. But from what I’ve heard, it is quite an exciting circuit with numerous twists and turns mixed into some fast corners and tight hairpin turns. It will be down to me to master those twists and turns if I want to elevate myself up the championship order. It will be a formidable weekend competing in such a talented class where some local drivers will also enjoy a slight advantage over others. It’s the same for them when they come to Gauteng, so I must remain focused on the task and give it my all,” said Bezuidenhout.
Bezuidenhout extends his thanks to MTN Cosmo-Net and Vivo Mobile South Africa. Practice is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with a late Friday afternoon qualifying session commencing ahead of Saturday’s three race heats.
