SA driver Aqil stars in Oulton Park British F4 outing
Johannesburg youngster Aqil Alibhai enjoyed a brilliant British F4 outing at the series’ fifth round at Oulton Park over the weekend. Alibhai, who has already won in the series, added a second, a seventh, and a reverse gid tenth to his title tally to move back up two championship positions following a few tough previous outings.
“Now that’s more like it!” Aqil enthused. “A most productive weekend in the number 14 at last. Oulton Park is a proper track and I was finally able to deliver a decent qualifying to put it third on the grid. The first race was great, it’s tough to overtake around here but I gave it my all and made a pass for second. That really was a great race.
“Of course that meant I had to start back in 15th in the reverse grid second race, which is inverted from 16th back on the first race result. I put my head down again, made five good overtakes, and ended up tenth. I was seventh on the grid for race 3, and that was a typical Oulton Park procession and I brought it home seventh for a triple top-ten on the day.
“That was my best ROKiT British F4 weekend yet. We scored good points to claw back from tenth to eighth in the title chase and I’m well within reach of fifth. I’m also proud to come home with another trophy. It’s been a hectic start to the season, but we have have the next round already at Silverstone this weekend and then the summer break break at last until Croft at the end of July.”
