Sparco ambassador Tate Bishop is eager to get his Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup championship season back on track as the ANGRi Racing Kart Academy instructor heads to the Aldo Scribante Racetrack this weekend for only the second time in his short saloon car career.
Bishop, the best-placed rookie and youngest driver on the grid, is ranked sixth on the points table and is keen on recording strong results after numerous mechanical challenges this season.
“Our season started well, but we know we can still improve,” says Bishop. “The past two rounds have been challenging with a few mechanical gremlins, including an overheating issue which caused the engine to lose power. Hopefully, the issue has been sorted out now, and we can focus on scoring some good points. Although this season is still a learning curve, it doesn’t mean we will compromise in any way. We aim to compete at the front as we did during last season’s CompCare Polo Cup. We know we are a fair bit behind the top three competitors, but that won’t stop us from pushing to win races. As a racer, that’s my goal every time I compete. Whether it was in karting or in a saloon car, the goal is always to be number 1.”
This weekend’s fourth round of the GTC SupaCup will form part of the Extreme Festival tour. The two races are scheduled to start at 13:10 and 16:40 and will be contested over 12 and 15 laps, respectively. A lunch break grid walk on the main straight will precede Race 1.
Spectator tickets can be purchased directly from Aldo Scribante Racetrack on race day with the entire race programme broadcast live on the Global Touring Cars Facebook page and 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
