Micro MAX driver Johan Nolte finished sixth overall at the weekend’s MSA Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship following some close and hard-fought racing at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
Nolte qualified sixth on Saturday morning in a talented field of drivers. Fortunate to avoid an opening lap incident, the E-Ballistic-backed driver managed to get one over Rafael de Sousa to finish in fifth at the end of the opening heat. Heat two would see him finish sixth after a close tussle with De Sousa and Cristian Verheul. In the final heat, Nolte would start fifth but eventually lose a position to Verheul as the chequered flag dropped to conclude the day’s racing.
“It was a tough day at the office,” said Nolte. “Our pace was not as good as we had hoped, with some of the leading drivers just too quick today. We will look at all our data and see where we can improve ahead of the next race. Thank you to everyone for the support.”
Nolte will head to Cape Town next for the third national round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge scheduled for 30 June to 1 August at the Killarney International Raceway.
