Red hot Rotax Max racing and multiple winners in all but one class heated up an icy Zwartkops’ fourth round Gauteng Northern Regions Max Kart meeting on Saturday.
Kian Grottis took DD2 two heats to one over Nicky Vostanis, while Dusan Radojevic’s single second was enough to sneak third over Masters winner Kyle Lawrence’s couple of thirds on the day. Bradley Liebenberg racked up the laps in the pack ahead of Tiaan Eloff, second Masters man Llewellyn Sutherland, James Carter, Masters man Ming Ma and Oliver Ehlers in tenth. Philipe Chapat won DD2 Vets.
Muhammad Wally put one over KC Ensor-Smith in the opening Senior Max heat, but KC struck back in the second and third races to take the day. Olerato Sekudu held Roshaan Goodman and Ethan Bostander off for third, ahead of Liam Polome, Mikel Bezuidenhout and Brandon Van der Walt. A duff second heat saw Wian Boshoff beat Kent Swartz two to one in high school Junior Max. Jonno Wilson was third from Mauro Da Luz, Georgia Lenaerts, Amani Kinyua, Gianna Pascoal and Torben Roos.
Under-13 Mini Max lad Caleb Odendaal was the only driver to go unbeaten on the day from the battling Kegan Martin, Spice Mailula and Taylin Patel. Durelle Goodman beat Emma Dowling to fifth from Franco Gibhard and Jesse Swart. Rafael Da Silva had to fight back to take the second and third under-11 Micro Max races and the day from race 1 winner Ronaldo Koen. Matthew Shuttleworth, Brodi Dowling, Cristian Verheul, Johan Nolte, Rafael De Sousa and Alessio Britz followed.
Last but not least, Adriaan Steyn beat Luhan De Wet two races to one to take baby Bambino honours. Luke du Toit followed from Ronald Venter, Aston Verheul, Lwashu Mathebula, Alonzo De Oliveira and Sebastien Shuttleworth. Rotax Max attention now turns to the midwinter Killarney Karting National in Cape Town on Saturday 24 May. Expect fireworks!
